Maya Angelou’s powerful autobiography, I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS, will be discussed at the February meeting. This beautifully written and brutally honest work tells of her life from the time she arrived in Stamps, Arkansas, as a 4 year old to her becoming a mother at 16 in San Francisco. Family, race, religion, abandonment, and self-righteousness are among the themes.
