Second Readers is starting the new year with James Thurber’s classic MY LIFE AND HARD TIMES, based on his early years growing up in Columbus, Ohio. Individual essays from the book have appeared constantly in anthologies. He writes with humor and insight about family frustrations, dogs, ghosts, and youth. He has a style in which no word is wasted and no effect is arrived by chance. Thurber once commented, “Humor is emotional chaos remembered in tranquility.” Visitors are welcome.
