Youth Building Reservation Form

Hailey Travis is the Youth Summer Intern

The Intern Selection Committee is excited to announce that Hailey Travis accepted its offer to serve a ten-week internship working with our Youth this summer.  Hailey will begin her internship around the final of week of May and work until the first part of August.  Hailey will aid Britton in providing SPY programming throughout the summer months, and Hailey will lead programming during the weeks Britton is away with our Youth at MoRanch, Montreat, and the South Dakota mission trip. The Youth Ministry is thrilled that Hailey’s acceptance of this internship allows for continuity of Youth programming throughout the summer! This is the second year that Second Presbyterian has offered this summer internship, and by all accounts, last year’s intern, Rachel Wells, was a total success with our Youth.

Hailey graduated from high school in Plainview, Texas. Currently, Hailey is finishing her sophomore year at Hendrix College where she is majoring in psychology. Hailey grew up in the Presbyterian Church, where she served in local church, synod, and national Presbyterian youth leadership positions. Hailey’s father is a Presbyterian minister, and her big sister is Britton Varn. The Selection Committee – Mark Hagemeier, moderator, Carrie Johnson, Sharon Otwell, Kenneth Rich, Sarah Green and Bo Turney, would like to note that Britton played no part in the interview/selection process.

Please join the Youth Ministry in welcoming Hailey to Second this summer as she works with our Youth!

Youth Safe Ride Program

The Safe Ride Program is designed to keep young people from driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.  It also seeks to provide youth with safe rides in other emergency situations.

By calling Yellow Cab, a young person can request a safe ride, and Second Presbyterian Church will pay for it.

In a perfect world, all of our youth would make smart decisions and not drink, but we know that is not always the case.  When young people do make poor choices, we hope that they are able and willing to call a parent to get them safely home.  We know that doesn't always happen either.  We hope that this program will give youth another option to make a good choice, and that it will save lives in the process.  Click here for the Safe Ride brochure, which gives more information about the program.  Contact Britton Varn, Director of Youth Ministry, with questions.
