Parking Lot Party:
In
August, the Youth
Group says “good-bye” to
the end of summer, and we kick off the new school year
with a big party in the parking lot of the church. This
party is complete with music, food, inflatable games,
and lots of fun! Youth are encouraged to bring a friend
to the party. They have the opportunity to
hear about all of the great plans for the year and to
sign up for several fellowship events and trips that
will happen during the year.
Presbytery Middle School Youthquake:
This weekend event brings Middle School Youth from all over Arkansas together at
Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center. Youth worship and play together in a
beautiful camp setting, while getting to know other
Presbyterian Youth from around the state. This weekend
centers around a theme that will help them relate
experiences in their life to God’s plan for them,
through music, play, and worship.
Fall Carnival:
On the Sunday before Halloween, Second
Presbyterian Youth come
together
to put on a carnival for the children of the church and
community. Children are encouraged to come in costume
and enjoy the festivities. Youth work booths with
activities such as a costume contest, cake walk, trick
or treating, face-painting, ring toss, Go Fish, and even
a “haunted” house! A hot dog supper is served,
too. This event is always eagerly anticipated by church
members of all ages.
Lock Ins:
On Friday evenings, our Middle School or
Senior High youth gather at the church for a night of
bowling, movies, go-carts, and lots more fun. They
stay up most of the night playing games, listening to
music, and enjoying other fun activities, (chaperoned of
course!). Throughout the year lock-ins are sometimes
planned around practices for concerts or musical presentations. Sleeping bags
and pillows optional! We will typically have three
lock-Ins a year.
Youth Musical:

For over 25 years, Second Presbyterian
Youth have showcased their
musical
and acting talents through the production of a Broadway
musical. Past performances have included such favorites
as Godspell, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, and Children
of Eden. Youth hold tryouts in the fall, and begin
rehearsals after New Year’s. This culminates in three
performances in the church Great
Hall. One of the more popular youth events of the year,
the spring musical is eagerly anticipated and enjoyed by
the entire church family, as well as the community.
End of Year Banquet:
After
a year filled with learning, growing, and fun, the youth
gather at the End of the Year Banquet to say thank you
to volunteers, good-bye to seniors, and hello to summer!
Families
of the youth are invited to attend the banquet as well.
There is a welcome to the rising sixth graders, who
are the newest members of the youth group, as well as a
welcome to eighth graders who are moving up to the
senior high group. There is also a time to reminisce
with the graduating seniors through the presentation of
a slide show, depicting pictures of them through the
years. |
