The topic of the study will be “David: Shepherd and King of Israel.” Author Stephen Binz incorporates contemporary study of the Bible with an ancient way of reading Scripture called lectio divina. This time-honored practice consists of five basic movements: biblical study (lectio), reflection (meditatio), prayer (oratio), discernment (contemplatio), and contemplative action (operatio). This approach to scripture invites readers to open minds and hearts to the transforming power of God’s word. Studying the scriptures with others provides a safe place for spiritual growth and the development of relationships with other Christians. The 10 sessions, which begin on Monday, September 19, and will continue through February 20, will include studying I and II Samuel, I Chronicles and several Psalms. The Bible Study group meets from 9:30-11:00 AM in Second Hall. All are welcome to come.Study books may be purchased in the church office for $8. Participants are asked to read the Welcome and Introduction before coming to class on Monday, September 19. If you have any questions, please call Karen Akin or email karenakin@secondpreslr.org.
