Our study book for the Fall will be The Friendship of Women: The Hidden Tradition of the Bible by Joan Chittister. Friendship colors the very air we breathe; it is everywhere around us. It binds past and present and makes bearable the uncertainty of the future. In this book, Joan Chittister explores the sacred dimension of friendship through the lens of faith, tradition, scripture, and the social sciences, and reveals the often-overlooked voices and experiences of women in the Bible. She invites us to seek and embrace friendship as it is embodied between women, between God, the Creator and all of creation, and between all human beings. The Bible study meets 9:30-11:00 a.m. in Second Hall. Books will be available for $10.00 in the church office. The study meets on the first and third Monday mornings of each month, with the following schedule:
- October 1: Introduction, Lydia, Prisca
- October 15: Deborah and Phoebe
- November 5: Esther and Martha of Bethany
- November 19: Veronica and Elizabeth
- December 3: Ruth and Anne
- December 17: Miriam, Mary Magdalene, and Epilogue
