Second Readers, Jan. 16

Second Readers will meet Wednesday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 61. We will discuss Yaa Gyasi’s 2017 epic novel Homegoing, a New York Times and Washington Post Notable Book. Set in 18th century Ghana, the novel tells of two half sisters born into different villages, each unaware of the other. One lives in comfort on the Gold Coast with a British husband; the other is sold into slavery in America. Through the stories of the sisters’ eight generations of descendants, the book illuminates slavery’s troubled legacy both for those who were taken and those who stayed. All are welcome to join the discussion. For questions or more information, contact Racheal Kiremerwa, rmk@aristotle.net or (501) 542-4051.
