What a Privilege to Carry Everything to God in Prayer
(Theology of Care: A Practical Guide for Pastoral Care)

Location: Room 65/66
Leader: Alisa Secrest

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear,
what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer;
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer?

As we get involved in people’s lives and identify with their struggles, a prayerful yearning for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven will emerge. This often translates into specific prayers and actions. Many of the people we care for will value our prayers, our care, and our advocacy.

Join this three-week conversation about God’s loving care for us through all stages of life, all sorts of challenges and celebrations across our lifespans. We will discover together our ongoing faith formation as we experience God through mind, body and spirit across the generations and milestones of our lives. As those who have been shaped in God’s loving care, we might then reach out to share that same compassion to others.

We will explore the ways Second Presbyterian shares the love of God with our congregation and community. We will celebrate the compassion of Second members sharing God’s love and explore ways you might choose to jump in.

Making it Easier to Be Green!

Leader: Ann Owen
Location: Second Hall

There are many changes happening to recycling and other environmental programs in Little Rock, and there are many exciting ways to be greener in your home, church and community. The Environmental Stewardship Committee has put together three informative sessions to help church members figure it all out!

March 4
We welcome City Director Kathy Webb, who can tell us about the changes in Little Rock’s recycling program and what additional changes we may see in the future. Kathy is the city board liaison to the Little Rock Sustainability Commission.

March 11
We will hear from Read Admire, the owner-operator of the Urban Food Loop. Read can help you with your own home composting, and tell you about his services here at Second, as well as his plans for the future.

March 18
Faith Mullins will tell us all about Plastic Free Little Rock, a volunteer organization she helped found, and whose programs are hoping to transform Little Rock into the greenest place in Arkansas!

Activities for Children

(Kindergarten – 5th Grade)

March 4, Called?
What does it mean to be called by God? What does it look like? Sound like? Feel like?

6:30-7:15 p.m., This week we will dig deep into being “called”. Miss Jeannie will lead Bible stories, games, and activities in Bible Village for all 1st-5th graders.

6:00-7:15 p.m., Children (ages 4 to 5th grade) who would like to have a speaking part or solo in the Mother’s Day Musical will meet with Miss Mary in the Bible Village gathering room.

March 11, Called?
Is it the big booming voice on the mountaintop commanding Moses to go down to Pharaoh? Is it a whisper in the heart encouraging us to go to sit with the child in the lunchroom who’s all alone? Through Called, children will discover how God can and will call anyone. Jeremiah heard the call when he was “just a child.” Mary and Martha heard the call when Jesus came to visit. Can you hear the call?

6:30-7:15 p.m., Miss Jeannie and Miss Mary will introduce children to modern day and Biblical characters who heard God’s call, and responded. All 1st-5th graders are welcome and encouraged to participate, regardless of participation in the Mother’s Day Musical. (There are activities in the upstairs preschool hallway for 4 year olds and kindergarteners.)

6:00-6:30 p.m., Miss Mary will meet with the speakers and soloists for the musical in Bible Village gathering room.

March 18, Called!
God has put something beautiful in you and is calling on you to share it with the world. It won’t always be easy, but god knows you and believes in you… even when you forget to believe in yourself.

God is not calling you to be someone else.
God is not calling you to be like someone else.
God is calling you because you’re YOU.
You are a child of God.
You are worthy.
You. Are. Called.

6:30-7:15 p.m., Miss Jeannie and Miss Mary will lead the children through activities that allow children to discern and respond to their callings.
