By focusing on our marriage within the context of Scripture, we give God the opportunity to reveal new insights about our relationship and strengthen our bond. This plan features a focused passage of Scripture and quick thoughts each day to initiate discussion and prayer with your spouse. This five-day plan is a short-term commitment to help you invest in your lifelong relationship.

Four times a year our congregation hosts homeless families in our church through Family Promise, providing them with shelter, food, and hospitality. We will be hosting again this upcoming week of September 25 – October 1 and have many volunteer opportunities available. Volunteers can bring a meal, or visit on a weekend afternoon, or serve as overnight host at the church. It is a great opportunity to serve others and build relationships in our community. Have questions or want to volunteer? Contact Steve Short (sjshort4@att.net, 501-831-4010) or Judi Short (judishort@sbcglobal.net, 501-517-4719).

Will be held on September 8, 2016 from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. All are invited to attend this special event, originally held on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, promoting understanding and peace among the world’s religions.  Following the program, there will be an Interfaith Food Festival (7:00 p.m.).

Meet in the youth building at noon, for an organizational meeting for our members who volunteer (or are interested in volunteering) with Family Promise. Family Promise serves families who are experiencing homelessness by housing them in church spaces that aren’t being used during the week.

Our next week to host Family Promise is Sept. 25-31, and volunteers are needed to help provide meals and groceries and serve as overnight hosts. Please join us for the organizational meeting next Sunday at noon in the youth building or contact Lindy Vogado in the church office (lindyvogado@secondpreslr.org, 227-000) if you cannot attend the meeting.

This fall the Outreach Ministry is coordinating a service project with a different mission partner each Second Saturday every month.  This month, a group from our church will be volunteering at Dunbar Community Garden on September 10 from 9:00 a.m.-noon. Since 1992, Dunbar Community Garden has been a leader in providing access to quality local foods and supports the development of urban teaching gardens within our community.  The garden is located at 1800 South Chester Street (not far from Allison Memorial Presbyterian Church). This service site is child friendly, and all you need to bring is a pair of work gloves and sunscreen/bug spray as needed. Contact Bruce Aston (bruceaston2@gmail.com or 501.425.8108) to sign up or for more information!

Everyone is invited to join the celebration as we “kick-off” another great year of Sunday School at   Second Presbyterian Church!!
