July 21 “Dirt! The Movie” – This award winning 2009  American documentary, narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, was inspired by the book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth by William Bryant Logan.  The film explores the relationship between humans and soil, including its necessity for human life and impacts by society.  Facilitator:  ScharmelRoussel, Executive Director of Arkansas Interfaith Power and Light.

July 28 – “Kansas vs. Darwin”   Convened by Creationists and organized by proponents of Intelligent Design, the Kansas Board of Education hearings on evolution were the subject of worldwide attention.  This film takes you inside one of the most talked-about events in modern history through exclusive footage and in-depth interviews on both sides of the debate.  More than a political documentary, Kansas vs. Darwin takes you to the dark heart of the culture wars, examining the confusing crossroads of politics, religion, science and education.  Facilitator:  Alan Diekman

August 4 Pray the Devil Back to Hell”   This documentary, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is the astonishing story of the women in Liberia who took on the warlords and regime of dictator Charles Taylor in the midst of a brutal civil war, and won a once unimaginable peace for their shattered country in 2003.  It is the story of ordinary women—mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim—who, armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, faced down the killers who had turned Liberia into hell on earth.  This story is a compelling example of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations.
