Choir Tour of Europe, August 2014

Fifty-one members of the Second Presbyterian Adult Choir will travel to Europe for a tour of Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria and Hungary, along with Artistic Director, Dr. Bevan Keating and organist, Adam Savacool.  The group will fly into Zurich, Switzerland, tour Lucerne, and continuing on to the first night in Freiburg, Germany.  They will spend a day touring Strasbourg, France, and back to Freiburg.

They will sing with Da Chor von Löffingen at the Löffingen Stadtfest in Germany, whose choir director is a former classmate of Dr. Keating’s from Canada.  The tour then goes to Munich and on to tour Neuschwanstein Castle in Hohenschwangau, Germany.  The choir will travel to Murnau am Staffelsee where they will have a joint concert with the Staffelsee Choir in the Kultur und Tagungszentrum.

The choir will continue to Salzburg, Austria where they will tour Mozart’s birthplace, and to Vienna.  They will spend a day touring Vienna before going to Matzen, Austria where they will have a concert in the Pfarrkirche as part of Matzen International Festival.  Many members of the choir visited the same church and gave a concert there when they toured Austria in 1996.

In Budapest, Hungary, the choir will participate in a Mass in the St. Matthias Church, followed by a concert in the same church.  The final night in Budapest will include a dinner cruise on the Danube River.

Much of the repertoire that will be sung in Europe on this tour will also be presented by the choir during Sunday worship services at Second Presbyterian in June and July, and in a special concert immediately after the 10:00 worship service at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 27.
