West with the Night is Beryl Markham’s memoir of her life from her childhood in Africa to becoming the first person to fly solo, non-stop from Europe to America. Before the flight, she was a well-known racehorse trainer and a bush pilot.

Hemingway best summed up the book in a letter to his editor: “This girl can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves writers…I wish you get it and read it because it is really a bloody wonderful book.”
