Ways to Help One Another

Through Friendship

“There is incredible power in a community of people who are together because they care, and who are motivated by the ideals of compassion and creativity.”
     —John O’Donohue, from Eternal Echoes

During a time of social distancing, it is all too easy to fall into social isolation. Let’s stay connected. We remain the body of Christ even when we cannot hug one another.
Second Church is assembling phone and penpal partners to keep at-risk and potentially isolated members in touch with loving community. We will send instructions and a list of folks we match for you. This is a 6-month project (unless you choose to continue when done). Your care will be greatly valued, and we think you’ll love the experience. This is how you can help.

  • Volunteer to call 1-5 members (or households) weekly
  • Volunteer to write 1-5 members (or households) weekly. Some might receive email, while others do not. Family art work, photos and personal stories shared will be valuable.

Please contact Sharon Howard, sharonhoward@secondpreslr.org. Again, we will send instructions and contacts.

If you wonder whether a beloved Second member is in our care network (maybe you’re concerned for a reason or few), ask Alisa Secrest, alisasecrest@secondpreslr.org.

Through Love-Bombing

During the month of May, Second Presbyterian is love-bombing our 20 member households at Parkway Village and Presbyterian Village. There are two stages.

Early May, we delivered care packages with cloth masks, devotionals, and lots of goodies.

Here’s where you come in. We need your cards, notes of encouragement, children’s art, written prayers, favorite devotionals, photos and any other items to show your loving care. These will be divided up into care packages for our Parkway and Presbyterian Village friends at the end of the month. We hope all-age members and families will participate. Drop off your gifts in the plastic bin by the church office door before Memorial Day.

For more information about offering or receiving care, contact Alisa Secrest, alisasecrest@secondpreslr.org.
