Hey everyone! My name is David Mills and I’m your new Interim Youth Director. I’m a member here at Second Presbyterian Church and I have worked as the Youth Ministry Intern here a few years ago. Since then I have been a Young Adult Volunteer in Belfast, Northern Ireland and I have worked with the United Campus Ministry at the University of Arkansas. I’m really excited to be here and to have the chance to meet you. Please feel free to stop by my office any time to say hello!

As your new Interim Director of Youth Ministry I am excited to announce this years Parking Lot Party is just a few weeks away! Our annual Parking Lot Party is Sunday, August 28 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.. At this event we will have hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner. We’ll have some desserts as well, but we invite you to bring your favorite dessert to share with everyone! We’re going to have some awesome inflatables to play on including an obstacle course, the velcro wall, a water slide, and a dunking booth. This event will also be an opportunity to have your picture taken for the SPY photo directory and for you to turn in the SPY    paperwork so you can participate in our events throughout the year. I can’t wait for the party and I’m looking forward to     seeing you there!

Summer Social Will Be Held Every Sunday (July 3 through August 21) from 9:40 until 10:00 a.m.  Please join us in our narthex. The Summer Social is time to visit with and make friends in the church; have coffee or juice and a bakery treat; catch up on summer plans and trips; and most importantly, to welcome each other to worship.

Four times a year our congregation hosts homeless families in our church through Family Promise, providing them with shelter, food, and hospitality.  We will be hosting again this upcoming week of July 3-10 and have many volunteer opportunities available.  Volunteers can bring a meal, or visit on a weekend afternoon, or serve as overnight host at the church.  It is a great opportunity to serve others and build relationships in our community.  Have questions or want to volunteer?  Contact Steve Short at (sjshort4@att.net, 501-831-4010) or Judi Short at (judishort@sbcglobal.net, 501-517-4719).

The foundations of Second Presbyterian church are built on the stories of those who, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, formed the congregation nearly 130 years ago, and the stories of those who built and developed it under that same guidance. The Heritage Committee has been at work researching and collecting those stories. Did you know that the brother-in-law of our first pastor was later president of the United States?  Or that Second may have been the first southern Presbyterian congregation to call a pastor from the north after the Civil War? You may have heard about long-time pastor Hay Watson Smith.  What were his connections to Second before he became pastor? Members of the Heritage Committee have been at work for several years finding new information and organizing old records and photos.  We would love to show you the results of that effort in the Heritage Room.  And if you are interested in our ongoing work, contact Jon Davies at jon.davies@baptist-health.org, or Karen Akin, karenakin@secondpreslr.org.

All young adults are invited to go out for lunch on the second Sunday of each month, starting February 14. Just meet outside the sanctuary after 11:00 a.m. worship and we’ll pick a place to go!

during a reception following the 11:00 a.m. worship service in the Narthex Sunday, February 14.  Rachel has accepted a new position in West Virginia.  She and her husband, James, will be moving next month.  Please come and wish them well and thank Rachel for her gifts of ministry that she has shared with our church.

Saturday, February 20 from 10:00-2:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church.
